Restaurant Review: Acosta's in San Antonio, New Mexico

Acosta's Restaurant is off the beaten path, even for San Antonio. And that's saying something, since San Antonio itself is pretty much off the beaten path. However, the well known places like Manny's and The Owl are on "the main drag" so at least the passers thru can stumble on them. Acosta's, on the other hand, is a block or two off the main drag, so it's not likely to be found by accident. That may be a good thing, since the restaurant has only about 5 tables total (although there are also a few picnic tables outside)!

Three words: yum, yum, yum! This place is GOOD! We're talking authentic, from scratch, New Mexican cuisine. Yes, you will be asked "red or green" - but you can also get things like homemade onion rings, homemade chips and salsa, and you should be able to find something delicious to eat at Acosta's even if you're a vegetarian. For example, I was in a non-meat mood, as I often am, and ordered the bean burrito plate. My dining compadres opted for a more meaty fare, and also ordered onion rings. Wow... I was impressed. I will be going back, for sure, but again I don't want to waste all that gas driving just for a meal - instead, I'll wait til I'm taking friends to the Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge. Give this place a try - you won't be disappointed.
