Restaurant Review: La Pasadita
This month's Socorro restaurant review features a favorite known only to locals, La Pasadita. Located at 230 Garfield Street, on a somewhat obscure one-way street behind the plaza, it seems to violate the 3 tenets of good business: location, location, location. However, when it comes to good home-cooked New Mexican cuisine, there is one thing that trumps location and that is TASTE!
Besides being in an out of the way location, La Pasadita also suffers from what might be called a distinct lack of "curb appeal" - the building doesn't inspire confidence, to say the least. In fact, I once took a colleague from Europe there for lunch and, upon arrival, he asked sheepishly, "are we going to eat here?" Once inside, you start to realize that the outward appearances and, yes, even location can be forgiven. The owners and staff are always courteous and friendly. The food is, if you like New Mexican cuisine at a fair price, to die for. And, of course, you should always order the Sopaipillas with honey for dessert. I recommend the tamale plate, any of the enchilada plates, or to be honest pretty much anything on the menu. I can only come up with 2 drawbacks to La Pasadita, not counting location and appearance: 1) chips and salsa do not come with the meal, and 2) they close at 6pm most days making anything but an early dinner impossible. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, I'll give it a 4+.
