Restaurant Review: Socorro Springs Brewing Company
This month's restaurant review features Socorro Springs Brewing Company, located on the main drag (California Street) in Socorro, New Mexico. Socorro Springs is not new to town, having previously been located in the historic Abeyta building on the plaza. As Socorro residents are sure to have already noticed, Socorro Springs is sporting a new and very large - some might say obnoxious - sign out front. The question, for many readers, would be whether their new sign, which almost suggests fast food, would find them compromising food quality.
The verdict? Well, fortunately the food is more appetizing than the new sign out front would lead you to believe. As for atmosphere, the new California location is certainly more "yuppie" than the old Abeyta building - in fact so yuppie as to make folks feel that they've stepped out of Socorro and into another town, a large city, or some strange alternate universe. Some will find the new building and atmosphere an improvement over the Abeyta building on the plaza, while others will reminisce about the historic setting and its rustic charm. However, one thing most patrons will agree upon is that the food remains quite good, the prices for the most part very reasonable, and the beer delicious.
So, don't let the terrible new sign scare you away, the food is still worth the wait. Where else in Socorro, New Mexico, can one have a nice meal, a home brewed beer, and a tasty dessert? Answer: nowhere. Game, set, match: Socorro Springs Brewing Company.

Perhaps worth mentioning...
I'm clearly one of those on the side of the historic setting and rustic charm of the Abeyta building. The long wait times during peak hours and loud dining area remind me way too much of an Albuquerque restaurant. We rarely go to the brewpub anymore, simply because of the atmosphere.
