Socorro News endorses: Bill McCamley for NM district 2 (democratic primary)

Money can't buy me love...

We cannot in good faith endorse another oil man in politics - look where the current oil men in Washington have gotten us: $3.75 gasoline with no end in sight! And there is something even more troubling: why is Teague running as a Democrat when, according to Federal Election Commission records, he contributed the maximum amount allowed by law ($2100) to Republican Congressman Steve Pearce in the last election?

McCamley and Teague are your choices for the democratic side of the ticket in the upcoming primaries to see who will be on the ballot for the November elections for Congressional district 2 in New Mexico. This is the seat being vacated by another oil man, Steve Pearce, who has forgone his reelection campaign in order to run for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Pete Domenici. The contrast between Bill McCamley and Harry Teague is stark: Bill McCamley represents a passionate, energetic, youthful, thoughtful, and citizen-funded candidate, while Harry Teague represents a more stolid, self-funded campaign. While Teague may be a nice guy, the last thing this country needs is yet more oil money in politics. If anything, we need to get oil men and oil money OUT of politics. That is, unless we want to go from $3.75 to $5.00 a gallon in the coming years. Moreover, there are certain things that money should not be able to buy. As the Beatles said, "money can't by me love" for one thing, but another thing that it shouldn't be able to buy is a congressional seat. $700,000 is a lot of dough - and Harry Teague has "invested" this much of his own money in his campaign. Oil men don't usually invest money without an expectation of some sort of ROI (return on investment). What's Teague's expected ROI?
